FIVE STEPS: FROM APPLICATION TO ENROLLMENT

Serendipity School’s 2017-2018 Admissions Process

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are delighted to begin the admissions process with your family. We know that applying to schools can be a confusing and daunting process. We are here to assist you along the way and answer any questions you may have. In addition, we have outlined our Admissions and Enrollment Steps for you below.  Thank you for your interest in Serendipity School; we look forward to working with your family.

Step 1: APPLICATION–Now on Ravenna!

Due through Ravenna on or before Thursday, January 11th, 2018 for all applicants

Our admissions and application process is now online through Ravenna. The first step of the admissions process is application. All of the following must be submitted through Ravenna by the January 11th due date for a child’s application to be considered by Serendipity School’s Admissions Department:

  1. Completed Application
  2. Application Fee of $200
  3. Copies of any and all educational and/or psychological testing

Step 2: ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION and MEETING with HEADS of SCHOOL

Current Teacher Evaluation Form (K to 5th) and Transcript Release and Confidentiality Form (1st to 5th)—due from teachers and schools on or before Friday, January 19th, 2018 (preferred submission method: Ravenna) Families will be contacted individually to schedule meetings.

We believe in building strong relationships; therefore, it is important to us that we really get to know your child and your family. Parents of all prospective students will have the opportunity to meet with our Heads of School after submitting an application. This informal Q&A session is a benefit to both the family and our school.

Records and recommendations are also required from each child’s current school. Your child’s current teacher has had the pleasure of developing a long-term relationship with your child. While we do meet and assess every Serendipity School applicant, information from your child’s current teacher is invaluable to us. Please send your child’s teacher an online invitation to complete the Teacher Evaluation Form through Ravenna. Please ensure that he or she is aware of the January 19th due date.

Parents of First through Fifth Grade applicants, in addition to securing a Current Teacher Evaluation Form from your child’s current teacher, please provide the Transcript Release and Confidentiality Form to your child’s school office or student records department. Please ensure that the school is aware of the January 19th due date. We prefer that schools upload transcripts to Ravenna, but will also accept hard copies.

Step 3: ASSESSMENT

Assessment is a crucial step in our admissions process. Every applicant must visit our school for an assessment. These assessment visits afford us the opportunity to get to know children in a relaxed, nurturing, fun, yet structured environment. Please follow the assessment steps below.

Kindergarten Applicants

  1. Sign up for our Assessment Play Date On Ravenna by Friday, January 19th, 2018
  2. Participation in Assessment Play Date—Friday, January 26th, 2018

All Kindergarten applicants are required to join us for our half-day Kindergarten Assessment Play Date on Friday, January 26th. Our Play Date enables us to observe each child’s social, emotional, cognitive, and gross motor skills through fun and play-based activities and an age-appropriate written/verbal assessment.

Here’s how the day will go:

You and your child will arrive at Serendipity School at 8:40 a.m. on Friday, January 26th and proceed to your child’s assigned registration room where friendly Serendipity School staff members will greet and assist you with the registration process. Once registered, you and your child will meet children, parents, and staff and make a fun craft together. When it is time to start the morning activities, you and your child will exchange hugs, kisses, and high fives and say goodbye for a short time while your child participates in the Play Date. Caring Serendipity School staff will be on hand to assist you with this transition. We will provide your child with a snack of Ritz crackers, apple slices, and water. At 12:30 p.m. you will return to your child’s registration room to sign your child out before returning home to hear stories about the day.

First through Fifth Grade Applicants

  1. Scheduling of a Shadow Day—please contact our Admissions office before Friday, January 19th, 2018 to schedule
  2. Participation in Shadow Day—by appointment

All First through Fifth Grade applicants are required to make an appointment to shadow at our school. We will carefully observe each child’s social, emotional, and academic skills. Individual assessments for incoming First through Fifth Grade students help us to determine each student’s areas of strength and challenge, as well as what our school can offer that child and what that child will contribute to the Serendipity School community. The goal is to preserve an engaged, happy, and thriving community of students who support each other and love to learn.

Here’s how the day will go:

You and your child will arrive at Serendipity School no later than 8:25 a.m. on your scheduled date. Please send your child with a lunch (including snacks for recess time) and appropriate outerwear for outdoor play. We will supply pencils, paper, and all educational materials for the day. After checking in at the school office, you and your child will exchange goodbyes, and your child will be introduced to the appropriate class. During the day, your child will participate in classroom activities and sit for a brief written/verbal assessment of academic and cognitive skills with the Director of Admissions. At 2:45 p.m. you will return to campus ready to take your child home and hear stories about the day. 

Step 4: 

DECISION LETTERS—postal mailed by Serendipity School on Wednesday, March 14th, 2018 (also emailed at noon on the following day)

Serendipity School will notify parents of the status of their child’s application by postal mail, postmarked on Wednesday, March 14th. Families will also be notified via email at noon of the following day. Families of accepted students will be invited to formally enroll at Serendipity School; one week will be granted to these families for decision-making and invitation acceptance.

Step 5: 

INVITATION ACCEPTANCE AND ENROLLMENT—due Friday, March 23rd, 2018

In order to process enrollment, Serendipity School requires the following:

  1. Enrollment Agreement
  2. Tuition Down Payment ($2,000)
  3. Educational Materials Fees (approximately $700)
