Students will learn how to apply the engineering design process to solve problems and build exciting machines! Students will put their problem solving skills to the test while learning a variety of engineering disciplines such as Aerospace, Industrial, Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, and Software Engineering. Students will create an incredibly fast rocket, make their own yummy ice cream, create and play with an Alligator or a Roaring Lion using LEGO® Robotics, or build the most exciting, loopy, and twisted roller coaster ever, and more

Hey kids! Do you love to cook, bake, and try new foods? Join us in celebrating delicious food by slicing, dicing, sautéing, and mixing up some food of your own. All classes utilize local ingredients (even from our own garden!), are hands-on, and emphasize that healthy food is delicious! Occasionally, we’ll make some sweet treats too. Enter the class with an open mind, an appetite, and a desire to learn. We promise to expand your culinary horizons.

Intro to Game Development 2
Build your own 3D Adventure. Learn 3D modeling and animation. Populate your world with custom monsters and avatars. Build your unique player character, items and power-ups. Learn to program custom behaviors, events, triggers and game rules.

Readers Workshop – Ms. Laurie
3:30 – 4:30
1st & 2nd Grades

During this workshop, students will be given an opportunity to read interesting and age-appropriate material in a small group setting. The students will be exposed to different reading strategies and skills followed by meaningful tasks and conversations about their books. When not working with the teacher, students will participate in rotations through three Language Arts Centers, including Spelling / High Frequency Word Practice, Writing Practice and Technology Integration.

Chess – Chess Wizards

Let your child be part of an exciting and successful chess academy. Chess Wizards offers specially designed classes that cater to all levels of chess ability. Each child will be challenged with fun games and lessons from real Wizard teachers.

After School Aviators – Hiller Aviation

The Hiller Aviation Museum will present hands-on aerospace enrichment activities. Lesson plans include Airplane Adventure, All About Helicopters, Elastic Rockets, Parachutes, Wright Flyers, and Rocket Blasters.

Thursdays:
Dance – Ms. Amy

Kindergarten – 5th Grade
During this workshop, students will learn basic dance steps set to a choreographed routine complete with props and costumes! The final class performance will be open to friends and family and will be filmed for those who cannot make it.

Photography- Mr. Todd

2nd – 5th Grades
This six week course teaches students the basics of photography, including cameras operation, lighting, and editing. By using subjects found on campus, students will learn how to adjust their camera to successfully photograph landscapes, portraits, and still life. The class will culminate in a show of their work at the Flywheel Press in Downtown San Mateo. All cameras and equipment will be supplied.

Advanced Fine Art Class- Mr. Todd
4:30 – 5:30
3rd – 5th Grades
This class is for 3rd-5th grade students who want to learn advanced painting techniques not taught in the regular curriculum. Students will work primarily with acrylic paint to study genres such as Still Life, Portraiture, and Landscape, as well as subjects that cater to the individual skills and interests of the student. The class will culminate in a show of their work at the Flywheel Press in Downtown San Mateo. All materials will be supplied.

Science – Atom Science Club

This is an 8 week Session
Dates: January 17th – March 21st
Through this exciting adventure club offered by Atom Science, children will scientifically discover the incredible connection between atoms, molecules, living organisms, and our universe by studying chemistry (specifically atoms), physics (the forces), biology (life study), and astronomy (the universe). By developing this scientific foundation early in life, kids build a solid understanding of science and a love of learning that will stay with them for a lifetime.

Archery Club – Mr. Brian

In the Serendipity Archery Club, students will learn beginning archery techniques. Student will spend as much time on the range as possible, practicing safety, proper technique and equipment maintenance. The Archery Club will be taught by Mr. Brian and parent volunteers are always welcome.
