Our Core Curriculum
The core classes offered at Serendipity School include Language Arts (Reading, Comprehension, Writing, Grammar, Spelling, Penmanship, and Public Speaking), Mathematics, Science (utilizing Delta and Foss science kits) and Social Studies.

The teachers use a multifaceted curriculum for the core subjects drawing from a number of different programs and educational resources. We utilize curriculum from Houghton Mifflin, Macmillan McGraw-Hill, the Wright Group, Pearson, Sitton, D’Nealian, Crabtree, as well as Delta and Foss Science Kits. Our challenging and enriched programs were carefully selected for their strengths and ability to support the teachers in utilizing differentiated instruction.

As a school our mission is to encourage, engage, and empower students on their journey toward academic and personal excellence in a nurturing community that promotes discovery, inquiry, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning. We believe in challenging each individual child to be the very best he or she can be, and we help students to set and reach goals by providing a well balanced curriculum that supports the achievement of high academic standards, while at the same time fostering a true love of learning.

We promote high levels of achievement and effort as children acquire the academic skills they need. We push the boundaries beyond a mere acquisition of knowledge: we want children to develop the confidence to investigate and enquire, to confidently solve problems, and to take responsibility for their own learning. We aim to enrich their learning experiences, strengthen their emotional confidence, and broaden their social horizons and cultural interests.

Instructional Strategies
Our talented and creative teachers undergo significant professional development to remain well versed in current pedagogical practices. Teachers carefully analyze the dynamics of their class before each lesson is planned and executed. This analysis reflects each of the three learning styles: auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. Our school’s hands-on approach engages every student in the learning process and encourages each individual to strive for his or her personal best. We believe that the Serendipity experience encourages each student to move forward into the next phase of his or her education with confidence and an inherent love of learning.

Student success is increased when teachers know and understand their students as individuals. At Serendipity School, teachers are committed to getting to know each child through the careful and attentive processes of observing, assessing, and guiding students in different forums of learning. Our teachers engage and educate students in whole classroom units, individually, and through flexible grouping that is typically based on the lesson and the specific learning intentions. The teachers at Serendipity School utilize a variety of instructional strategies to engage each child throughout his or her educational journey including discovery/inquiry-based learning, questioning and critical thinking, cooperative and collaborative learning, discussion and debate, hands-on and project-based learning, and creative learning through modeling, music/dance/song, art, and role play/simulations/drama, and adaptive processes for differing learning styles/multiple intelligences.

Differentiated Instruction
As a progressive institution of Kindergarten and Elementary education, Serendipity School believes that it must focus on education that addresses the individual needs of each student. All students come to our school with vastly different personalities, interests, backgrounds, strengths, and weaknesses. Learning abilities are dynamic and vary significantly from child to child. An optimal approach to teaching our students rests in our ability to recognize their differences and to find the means to address and meet these unique characteristics. We therefore endeavor to access and implement a differentiated curriculum, for which our teachers have undergone significant training. Differentiated instruction maximizes academic growth and individual success by accessing and educating the whole child.

Serendipity School is dedicated to active learning, differentiated instruction, and teaching to the whole child. Serendipity’s hands-on, developmentally-focused curriculum is designed to engage each child, supporting academic growth and achievement and fostering a true love of learning. Serendipity School encourages achievement and effort by empowering students and providing them with tools for academic success.

Serendipity students are empowered to experiment, assume academic risk, and take an interest in and responsibility for the world around them. Students at Serendipity School are encouraged to strive for personal and academic excellence. The goals and expectations for Serendipity School students are evidenced in the school’s Expected Schoolwide Learning Results, referenced by the acronym CLEAR.
