Candidates must possess all of the following:

• Teaching Credential

• 1 or more years of experience leading an Elementary School level classroom

• Proven ability to teach and support children one on one, in small groups, and in a full-class unit

• Experience planning and implementing dynamic classroom lessons that are standards-based and incorporate hands-on, project-based, collaborative, and experiential learning, as well as higher-level thinking skills such as logical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving

• Ability to differentiate instruction based on diverse learning styles, interests, and abilities

• An understanding of the academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of elementary-aged students

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to interact positively and effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff

Tech and Innovation classes offer students increasing opportunities to engage and build skills development in woodworking, electronic circuitry, robotics, 3D printing, design and engineering, basic coding, photography and videography, while working on collaborative projects.

K - 2 Innovation:

The lower grade Innovation program embraces a child’s sense of wonder and possibility, and instills the prerequisite skills needed to enter the world of coding, computer skills and graphic design. Occurring in the Innovation/Tech Lab as well as in the classrooms, our K-2 Innovation program is entirely hands on, active, and joyful.

3-5 Technology:

In our upper grades, the students build on the knowledge they’ve gained in design, 3D printing, laser cutting, tech & maker tools, and project management to learn more sophisticated coding and application. Our Innovation teacher works closely with the classroom teachers to integrate and utilize technology to enhance student learning in the classroom and the Innovation Lab.The ideal candidate embraces the dynamic and creative nature of working in a Progressive learning environment and ability to create curriculum related to grade level content and student interest.

At Serendipity School, we believe that young children learn from playing, problem solving, questioning, and experimenting. We use play and other instructional techniques to teach children about the world. Our teachers work with children from different ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds. Teachers include topics in their lessons to teach children to respect people of different backgrounds and cultures.

Responsibilities:

• Planning and implementation of age-appropriate monthly curriculum for their class.
• Working with children in groups, or one on one, depending on the needs of children and the subject matter.
• Communicating necessary information to parents and family members,
• Working cooperatively with teachers, support staff and administration.
• Planning and carrying out a curriculum that targets different areas of child development, such as language, fine and large motor ability, art, and social skills.
• Organizing activities so children can learn about the world, explore interests, and develop talents.
• Watching for signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and bring problems to the attention of administrators and parents.
• Keeping records of the students’ progress, routines, and interests, and keep parents informed about their child’s development.

Position Summary:

The teaching associate is responsible for providing assistance to the classroom teacher in preparing lesson plans and instructing students.

Essential Job Functions:

• Completes various tasks assigned by the classroom teacher, including but not limited to:
• Grading papers
• Checking homework
• Copying
• Working with individual or small groups of students
• Taking over the entire class whenever the teacher deems it necessary
• Supervises students during lunch and recess time, before and after school, and in the classroom
• Substitutes as needed in other classrooms
• Upholds and enforces school policy, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations, and is supportive of them to the public
• Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time
• Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with other staff members
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above
• Able to:
• Use a computer and related software
• Use teaching and assessment materials and methods
• Plan and deliver instruction
• Evaluate behavior and performance of students
• Use equipment such as overhead projector, copy machine, video cassette recorder, binding machine, film projector and audio visual equipment
• Communicate using interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Physical Demands:

• Sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time
• Read handwritten documents and other records or reports
• Some light lifting and carrying
• Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone
• Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor children
• Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and file materials
• Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching
