Welcome to the 2026–2027 School Year!

Every new school year begins with exciting possibility.

As classrooms fill once again with questions, conversations, creativity, and discovery, we begin the school year with a renewed sense of purpose and excitement about what lies ahead at Serendipity School.

For more than three decades, Serendipity has been grounded in a progressive vision of education: one that recognizes children as unique individuals, invites them to learn through active discovery, and understands that meaningful relationships are at the heart of meaningful learning.

This year, we are building upon that foundation with a renewed mission:

Sparking curiosity, creativity, and confidence, Serendipity School's inclusive community cultivates the art of learning. Through meaningful relationships, hands-on exploration, and thoughtful risk-taking, children from preschool through fifth grade develop the imagination, courage, and compassion to shape their world.

Our mission, together with our enduring pillars of Individuality, Discovery, and Community, reflects both who Serendipity has always been and where we are headed.

Turning Our Mission Into Action

Our renewed mission is accompanied by strategic goals designed to ensure that the values we hold are visible in the everyday experiences of our students.

At the center of this work is The Art of Learning, our commitment to creating learning experiences that honor each child's individuality while cultivating curiosity, creativity, confidence, and deep understanding.

Throughout the year, students will experience rich thematic and project-based learning, hands-on exploration, inquiry, collaboration, arts integration, innovation, and opportunities to apply their learning to authentic questions and problems. Alongside these experiences, explicit instruction in foundational literacy and mathematics will provide students with the essential skills they need to become confident, capable learners.

We want children not simply to acquire knowledge, but to become people who know what to do with it. We encourage them to ask meaningful questions, make connections, imagine possibilities, persevere through challenges, reflect on their experiences, and use what they learn to contribute to the world around them.

Who We Hope Our Children Become

That vision is reflected in CARE, our renewed Portrait of a Graduate.

CARE describes our aspiration for Serendipity students to grow as Creative Thinkers, Adventurous Learners, Reflective Individuals, and Engaged Community Members.

These qualities extend beyond any individual subject or classroom. They represent the whole child and provide a shared language for learning, relationships, reflection, and growth from preschool through fifth grade.

Throughout the coming years, CARE will increasingly shape how we design learning experiences, document student growth, develop portfolios and narrative assessments, and invite students to reflect upon and take ownership of their own learning.

Strengthening Connection and Community

None of this work happens in isolation.

Community is not simply one of Serendipity's three pillars; it is an essential part of how children learn. Children thrive when they feel known, valued, and connected; and when the adults in their lives work together in support of their growth.

This year, we are creating more opportunities for families to participate in the life and learning of our school through curriculum conversations, learning walks, Innovation and Arts Nights, Family Math and Literacy Days, parent education, classroom experiences, student exhibitions, assemblies, service learning, and community events.

We are also continuing to strengthen connections between our preschool and elementary campuses so that children and families experience Serendipity as one connected learning community grounded in shared values, meaningful relationships, and a common educational vision.

Our goal is to build a genuine partnership in which students, educators, and families learn with and from one another.

A Year of Possibility

Learning begins with a wondering, a big idea, or a simple “What if?”

When children have the skills and confidence to follow those questions, to explore, to create, to take thoughtful risks, to reconsider their thinking, and to try again; they see themselves as thinkers, creators, problem-solvers, and people capable of shaping their world.

That is The Art of Learning.
