Head of School Message
“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
— Jane Goodall
Dear Serendipity School Community,
Welcome to a brand-new school year at Serendipity School! Whether your family is returning or just beginning your journey with us, we’re so glad you’re here. The start of a new year brings fresh energy, new friendships, and meaningful opportunities for students to grow—personally, academically, and socially.
This year is especially meaningful for me, both professionally and personally. After 14 years as an administrator and proud member of the Serendipity community, I am honored to step into the role of Head of School. Over the years, I have had the privilege of serving in many roles and working alongside this caring community to help make a positive difference. My work has always been driven by a deep belief in our mission, in the boundless potential of each child, and in the unique gifts every community member brings to our school. Again and again, I have been inspired by the shared sense of purpose that defines Serendipity—a purpose rooted in discovery, connection, and a true commitment to the development of the whole child.
One of the most treasured roles I have held at Serendipity is that of a parent—my own child is entering their final year in our program. Alongside you, I have walked these same hallways as a parent, cheered from the same seats, and shared the same deep pride in our children and heartfelt gratitude for the people who make this school so special.
At Serendipity School, we believe that children thrive when they feel seen, heard, inspired, and engaged. We blend hands-on discovery, creative expression, and meaningful relationships to create a joyful, inclusive environment where every child is empowered to grow with confidence, curiosity, and a strong sense of self. We also believe that children should be actively involved in their own learning. That means ensuring students are engaged in three essential ways:
Personal Engagement: We want every child to feel confident, valued, and supported as they grow into their fullest selves. Through academic voice and choice, goal-setting and reflection, and the freedom to pursue their interests and passions, students build self-esteem, resilience, and a strong sense of identity. We nurture autonomy, empathy, and agency in our learners. In doing so, we empower each child to take ownership of their journey—and to take pride in who they are and who they are becoming.
Academic Engagement: Our classrooms are alive with curiosity, creativity, challenge, and joy. Whether students are exploring new ideas, solving problems collaboratively, reading great books, or expressing themselves through art, writing, and creative expression; we strive to help every child stretch their thinking and deepen their love of learning.
Social Engagement: We believe school is not just a place to learn—it’s a place to belong. Our focus on empathy, respect, and collaboration helps students build meaningful friendships, work together as a team, and grow as compassionate members of a caring, inclusive community.
As I begin this new chapter, I do so with deep humility, great enthusiasm, and a strong sense of purpose. I am committed to nurturing a community where every child feels seen, supported, and inspired—each and every day. I’m also excited for all that we will create together and the meaningful difference we will continue to make together.
Warmly,
Mandy Hodge Rizvi
