Raising Confident and Capable Math Learners:
An Evening with Jo Boaler

What does it mean to be a confident and capable mathematician? What does meaningful challenge in math look like? How can parents support their child’s math learning and positive relationship with math?

Join Serendipity School for an evening with Jo Boaler, a professor of mathematics education at Stanford University and cofounder of YouCubed, an organization dedicated to making mathematics more engaging and accessible for learners. Together, we’ll explore how children learn math and how we can help them become flexible, creative problem solvers.

We’ll consider the important thinking that happens before arriving at an answer: approaching unfamiliar problems, noticing patterns, testing ideas, and explaining reasoning. We’ll also discuss how children learn to work through challenges, collaborate with others, and apply what they know in new situations. Parents will leave with a fuller picture of meaningful rigor and achievement in math and ideas for supporting curiosity and engagement at home.

Thursday, October 15, 2026 • 6:00–7:30 p.m.
Location: Serendipity Performing Arts Center

Refreshments will be served.
