Serendipity School’s Language Arts Program helps students build a strong foundation in literacy. Students develop and hone skills in reading and interpreting a variety of literature and informational texts. Students also practice speaking and listening, research and investigation, conventions of language, vocabulary, spelling, penmanship, speech and debate, recitation and performance. Hands-on literacy workshops, engaging activities, centers, and collaborative projects help to make the acquisition of reading skills fun, and create eager readers who love reading and literature. Students also grow as writers. Writing activities such as creative and informational writing, journal and letter writing, creative and cross-curricular projects, and writer’s workshops provide students with an exciting inroad to the world of authorship.

Serendipity’s Mathematics Program provides a complete math education based on creating number sense, gaining a firm grasp on mathematical concepts, deepening problem solving skills, and developing strong computation skills. Students develop math literacy and an understanding of numbers and concepts, from basic skills such as identifying patterns, positions, and sets; to advanced problem solving, geometry, fractions, multiplication and division, and algebraic reasoning. Students learn to embrace mathematical challenges and employ multiple strategies in their problem solving. Our program goes beyond rote memorization of math facts, using tools such as games and songs, manipulatives and models, puzzles, and brainteasers to make math an engaging multi-sensory experience. 

Serendipity’s Science Program strives to develop the thinking process by encouraging students to explore, experiment, and innovate. Our program encompasses the study of Earth and Space Science, Life Science, Physical Science, Health, and Engineering Practices. Students ask questions and define problems, develop and use models, plan and carry out investigations, analyze and interpret data, construct explanations and define solutions, engage in arguments from evidence, and effectively obtain, evaluate, and communicate information. Students are asked to think critically and “outside the box”. Science at Serendipity goes beyond theoretical learning, offering practical and hands-on experiences. 

The Social Studies Program at Serendipity is designed to give students a better understanding and appreciation of themselves and the world around them, including geography, community, economy, civics, the diversity of world cultures and traditions, and the important role history plays in shaping the present. A great emphasis is placed on creating respectful community members and responsible global citizens- individuals who care for one another and play an active role in making their community and their world a better place.
